Early Bird registration for returning families opens on January 27, 2025!

Foothill Horizons Summer Camp is a one-of-a-kind summer camp for FUN, friendship, imagination, and independence!  Since opening its doors to campers in 1980, Foothill Horizons Summer Camp has welcomed generations of families from California, across the United States, and even from around the world for over 40 years!

It is open to children entering grades 2-8 in the fall.  It is located in the beautiful, rustic foothills of Sonora California on 143 wooded acres and is owned and operated by Stanislaus County Office of Education.

All facilities are ADA compliant and have heating and cooling.

Participant Information

Campers are kids who are currently in grades 1-7 and will be entering grades 2-8 in the fall of the Summer Camp year. Campers bunk in the dorms with kids their own age and may request to be bunkmates with their friends who enroll with them for the same session. They will have the opportunity to interact with other age groups for all other activities.

Once children enter 9th grade, they become Counselors in Training (CITs), followed by Junior Counselors (JCs). Through this 4-year progressive program, CITs and JCs learn leadership skills, responsibility, independence, and program creation. They support campers by supervising, leading classes, and building impressive scenes for the theme of each week.

CIT I (entering 9th grade), CIT II (entering 10th grade)
JC I (entering 11th grade), JC II (entering 12th grade)

Foothill Horizons Summer Camp

Independence & Acceptance

At FHSC, independence flourishes as kids navigate exciting new challenges and responsibilities on their own. From deciding how to spend their free time to mastering skills like swimming, playing capture the flag, or even pancake catching, campers are encouraged to take charge and build confidence.  They’re given the freedom to make their own choices and experience the pride that comes with them. Every activity is thoughtfully designed to foster self-reliance, helping campers discover their strengths while learning that independence doesn’t mean being alone—it’s about growing into their true selves.

Imagination & Friendship

Imagination and friendship are at the heart of camp life. With our unique theme nights and creative projects, we spark endless possibilities in each camper’s mind. We encourage every child to dream big and look beyond what is in front of them, allowing their creativity to take flight in ways they never thought possible. From the first moment campers arrive, they are welcomed into a community where collaboration and connection are key. The friendships formed transcend the summer, with many campers finding a sense of belonging that stays with them long after they leave.

Adventure & Laughter

Above all, camp is about having fun. Every day is packed with adventure, laughter, and moments of pure joy. Whether it’s the thrill of completing the adventure course, the magic of theme night, or simply hanging out with friends, fun is at the heart of every activity. Campers leave with their hearts full, lifelong memories, and stories they’ll share for years to come. This atmosphere of fun creates a safe space where every child can express themselves freely, try new things, and leave their worries behind, fostering a safe space where joy, acceptance, and excitement are the norm.
